Locarno is the Latin project of Juno Award winning musician, Tom Landa. Tom was born and raised in Mexico City and moved to Canada in his teens. Although achieving amazing success with his folk-roots band, The Paperboys, Tom has always dabbled in Latin music. Inevitably he decided to immerse himself in the genre and ultimately formed the groundbreaking Latin music powerhouse, Locarno. Their extraordinary debut album, Una Mas Y Ya Nos Vamos, a mix of son jarocho tunes with Afro-Cuban rhythms, garnered rave reviews and twenty years later they are still thrilling audiences from coast to coast. Over the years Locarno has expanded their sound to incorporate musical influences from Columbia, African Soukous, Mexican marimba music, Venezuela joropo and Brazilian forró. “Locarno’s approach is so genuine and so welcome for audiences who enjoy great songwriting, respect for tradition, searching musical curiosity, exuberant energy and virtuoso performance skills. Don’t miss the chance to see this band. You’ll find yourself singing their praises too.” (CBC producer Michael Juk)
